FYEX-104 Black American Music & Politics

wix pic other page.jpg

This course dives into how music and politics are intertwined in the African American experience, looking at how different genres like blues, jazz, gospel, soul, hip-hop, and R&B have not only shaped cultural identity but also acted as tools for political activism and resistance to oppression. We explored the role of Black artists as both cultural influencers and political figures.

As a final project, we wrote an essay that connected Black American music with the broader political and historical context, helping us understand how these two forces have influenced each other over time.

This project gave me a clearer understanding of important social issues, and I believe it will benefit me in my future nursing career. To provide truly patient-centered care, I need to understand the larger systemic problems that affect people's lives. This paper has helped me gain a deeper perspective, and I’m confident that this knowledge will help me be more effective in my role as a nurse.
